SUSTENANCE

I will let my imagination sustain me

When night refuses to accept recession

When sorrow clouds the moonless sky

And stars die down out of depression

I will let my imagination sustain me

When icy winter extends her sway

When frost strikes the hearts of men

And turns them stone cold right away

I will let my imagination sustain me

When in my garden no flowers bloom

When the parched earth runs out of love

And when gaiety finds no room

I will let my imagination sustain me

When melody is sought in war cries

When there’s no music to lull the soul

That resignedly toils to survive

I will let my imagination sustain me

When solitude pulls me in his embrace

When I fall for him as we leisurely dance

When I drown in his empty gaze

I will let my imagination sustain me

When the realities turn hostile

When the only escape out of misery

Is to fantasize and fake a smile

I will let my imagination sustain me

For as long as she lets me expend her

For as long as she lets me consume her

Till her strengths and powers run dry
